I. B. Remsen Studio Tour 5

I. B. Remsen Studio Tour 6

Standing at the top of the stair we can look across one of the three wheels I use at a table full of fresh ware. These pieces were thrown the previous day and I have just finished putting handles on all of them. If I was going to put some decoration on them at this stage I would cover them for another day so soft handles could equalize out in moisture content with the rest of the pot. If not I would lightly cover them till evening and then transfer them to tote boards for storage under the work tables.

Making many multiples of the same form is a meditative process that allows me find the true form. I start with an idea and a certain weight of clay. With a totally new form I usually don't really see where I am going until after 6-12 repetitions. After 50 or so I really start to get a feeling for the form.
